Kabale-The Deputy Governor of the Bank of Uganda, Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba, has urged researchers and innovators to uphold objectivity and accuracy in their work to ensure credibility and meaningful impact.

He made the call today while officiating at the opening of the 2025 Multidisciplinary Research Dissemination Workshop at Kabale University, held under the theme “Harnessing the Power of Research for Inclusive Growth and Wealth Creation.”

The two-day workshop has drawn academics, professionals, and policymakers from across Uganda.

Prof. Nuwagaba emphasized that research findings must undergo thorough scrutiny before being presented to the public.“Researchers must remain objective and ensure their studies are accurate, credible, and impactful.

As we seek more funding for research, it is equally important that the research we conduct addresses pressing societal, economic, and environmental challenges,” he said.

Representing Kabale University Vice Chancellor Prof. Joy Kwesiga, the Dean of the School of Medicine, Prof. James Tumwiine, called for increased investment in research, particularly in tackling climate change, soil erosion, water pollution, and low agricultural yields in the Kigezi region.

Meanwhile, Prof. Sabiti Makara, Chief Director of Graduate Training at the university, noted that Uganda’s relatively small budget for Research and Development (R&D) continues to undermine science, technology, and innovation.

The annual workshop, organized by Kabale University’s Directorate of Research and Grants, provides a platform for scholars and stakeholders to disseminate findings, exchange ideas, and build networks that can inform policy and promote inclusive development.
