Bobi Wine seeks Katikkiro Mayiga’s blessings

Date:

The president of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine to today met Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga to tap into his wisdom and seek his blessings ahead of his campaign in Lubaga.

Kyagulanyi arrived at about 10.00 am and was received by the Buganda Minister for Information, Israel Kazibwe Kitooke, alongside  Noah Kiyimba and Choltilda Nakate Kikomeko. He held a closed-door meeting with Mayiga, which lasted about an hour.

After the meeting, Kyagulanyi and Mayiga joined other leaders who had gathered in the Bulange gardens.

Speaking first, the Leader of the Opposition, Joel Ssenyonyi, raised concerns to the Buganda leadership, saying that many people who had been invited were blocked by security agencies from accessing Bulange, despite the reasons for the meeting being well known.

Ssenyonyi told Mayiga that the government continued to rely on intimidation, arrests, and, in some cases, the killing of supporters of the opposition.

Kyagulanyi said his party remained committed to addressing issues affecting Buganda and Uganda as a whole. He explained that this was the reason he had committed himself to seeking national leadership.

In his remarks, Mayiga condemned the actions of security personnel who block some people from campaigning freely in the country.

He said Uganda belongs to all its citizens and that everyone should tolerate one another. Mayiga added that Buganda welcomes everyone who comes to the region and remains committed to its five key principles.

After the engagement at Bulange, Kyagulanyi proceeded to campaign in the division.
