In a shocking and heartless move, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, the leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), has reportedly distanced himself and the party from ailing comedian Sami Okonya, also known as Sami Mighty, claiming that the popular entertainer was a government spy secretly placed inside the party.
Sami, who is well known for his performances with the Da Mighty Family, is currently fighting for his life due to serious health complications. While many Ugandans expected support from NUP the party he strongly supported, Bobi Wine has instead publicly disowned him, according to an insider who attended a closed-door meeting held over the weekend at Bobi Wine’s home in Magere.
“Bobi Wine told us clearly, in his own words, that he will not help Sami Mighty in any way,” the insider revealed. “He said Sami was deployed by Bebe Cool (real name Moses Sali) as a spy within the party, and that now he is just receiving the consequences of working for the enemy.”
The insider, who requested to remain anonymous for safety reasons, said the topic came up during the meeting after Sami’s open letter to President Yoweri Museveni started trending online.
In the letter, Sami apologized to the President for his past insults and begged for medical support. The plea reportedly embarrassed NUP’s leadership and triggered internal discussions on how to respond.
“Most of the leaders at the meeting were shocked when Bobi Wine showed no sympathy. He even criticized Sami for writing to the President,” the insider said. “He said that if Sami wants help from NUP, he must first apologize to him personally and to the party. Otherwise, he can suffer and die those were his words.”
What made the situation worse, the source added, was that some NUP members present at the meeting were seen mocking Sami as his situation was being discussed. Instead of showing concern for a sick former supporter, they laughed and made jokes about his condition.
“It was painful to watch,” the source explained. “They treated Sami like a joke, even though he once stood with them and used his platform to speak for the oppressed.”
The source also claimed that Bobi Wine accused Bebe Cool of pretending to help Sami only because he was his own spy.
“Bobi Wine said Bebe Cool is not helping Sami out of kindness, but because he was his agent inside NUP,” the source quoted.
Sami, who is now receiving treatment at Mulago National Referral Hospital, has reportedly told his close friends that he doesn’t want anyone from NUP to attend his burial if he dies.
“He feels deeply betrayed,” the insider said. “He gave his energy and voice to NUP, and now that he’s down, they’ve abandoned him completely.”
This incident paints a troubling picture of Bobi Wine and his leadership within NUP. While he has built his public image as a man of the people, these recent revelations suggest a leader who is quick to turn against his own, even in moments of great need.
As the 2026 elections approach, such actions may lead many former supporters to question whether NUP truly stands for unity, or just political convenience.
