Biggie Events Sent to Luzira Prison for Six Months Over Unsettled Ugx 70m Loan

Date:

Renowned events promoter Biggie Events has been sentenced to six months in Luzira over an unsettled debt of Ugx 70,058,700.

Promoter Biggie, real name Mutakubwa Mariam, was arrested on Monday over a Ugx 70 million loan that she had borrowed from one Tumusiime David Amooti.

The court Bailiff, Sarah Komugisha, while speaking to journalists, revealed that for a year now, the court had summoned Biggie Events to appear, but it had failed to comply.

After the back-and-forth, she was found at Ham Shopping Mall, where she was rounded up and arrested, before being presented before the court.

She, however, failed to get the money on time, and the judge sent her to Luzira prison, where she is expected to serve up to six months.

After serving her sentence, she will return; if not, she will agree with Mr. Tumusiime to a consent settlement, under which she will establish a payment plan. But that comes after she brings a substantial amount of money plus our executional costs, then getting out of jail,” she said.

Ms. Komugisha revealed that they had evidence of WhatsApp chats in which the court summoned Biggie Events, but Biggie Events failed to comply.
