Ugandan musician Big Eye, born Ibrahim Mayanja, has declared his intention to contest for a parliamentary seat in the upcoming 2026 elections. The singer made the announcement via his social media platforms, where he addressed his fans and shared his aspirations to serve the nation in a political capacity.

A vocal supporter of the National Unity Platform (NUP) and its president, Robert Kyagulanyi, Big Eye explained that his political ambitions are motivated by Kyagulanyi’s advocacy for youth participation in leadership and governance.

Dear fellow citizens, I’m tired of comments saying, ‘Big Eye, leave politics and focus on music.’ Let me set the record straight: I am deeply committed to the politics of my country, and I will never step away from it,” he wrote.

The artist reaffirmed his commitment to shaping Uganda’s future, adding, “I’m seriously considering running for a parliamentary seat in the 2026–2031 term as our President, H.E. Robert Kyagulanyi, has encouraged us to do. If not us, then who? Music is my business, but my commitment to my country is my priority.”

Although Big Eye did not disclose which constituency he plans to represent, his announcement signals a shift in his career priorities. The singer has been an outspoken figure in Ugandan politics, often using his platform to advocate for change.

The announcement has sparked debates online, with supporters applauding his decision and critics questioning whether he can balance his political aspirations with his music career. Big Eye, however, remains focused on his goal of contributing to Uganda’s development through public service.
