Balaam Barugahara denies claims of using Don Chris’ fraud case to solicit funds from President

Date:

The State Minister for Gender, Labour, and Social Development in charge of Children and Youth Affairs, Hon. Dr. Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, has denied Don Chris’ recent allegations that he is using his fraud case to extort money from President Museveni.

Yesterday, Don Chris appeared on BBS TV denying the Internal Affairs report, claiming that the amount in question was 1.4 billion, as previously stated by Mr. Mudenyi. He claimed that the figures were being forged by Hon. Balaam, who he said had intentions of extorting money from the president under the pretense of compensating the victims.

Balaam, during an interview with the same station, denied the allegations. He emphasized that he had nothing to do with the case, but he had only become involved after the victims flooded his office with requests for help. As a minister for the youth, he did his part by notifying the Fountain of Honor about how his people had been scammed while searching for jobs.

Hon. Balaam further revealed that he is a very rich man who works for his money and doesn’t need handouts from the president.

I do not need any money from the President. I’m a don; a rich man. I’m a loaded man and a medium taxpayer. Last year, I paid 1 billion in taxes to the URA. I’m among the best taxpayers. You do not do this unless you have businesses.

I do not know him (Don Chris) or even hate him; I just want him to be realistic. If the president can help the victims, then he should. But we won’t sit back and watch him scam people, he said.

Balaam Barugahara reported that following the numerous victims’ reports to his office, he summoned them, who in turn sent over their lawyers to address the issue.

At the end of the meeting, they agreed that Don Chris would reimburse the victims within one week, but instead, he fled the country.

I do not blame him much because he is a young person and helps our people find jobs. However, I will not support a person who steals from the people and causes them to lose their property. So we have left everything for Interpol, Uganda Police, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs to see that he is brought back to answer to the case, he said.
