Renowned music promoters Bajjo Events, Nobat, and Abitex fall out over the release of government funds intended to support event organizers.
Abitex, the President of the Federation of Uganda Events Organizers and Promoters Association (FUPA), recently confirmed that the government released over UGX 10 billion, which was deposited into their SACCO, and he holds the final signatory authority on the account.
In a turn of events, Bajjo and Nobat have championed the section of promoters who claim that Abitex stole the funds, refusing to share with them. According to Bajjo, they got the idea of starting their own SACCO from the President, who was tired of them constantly begging him for money individually.
They started a Sacco with Balaam, Luba, among others, and Abitex, instead of joining them, made his own Sacco. He noted that the president ordered the promoters’ money split into two, with both groups receiving 5 billion each. Now that the money had been disbursed, Bajjjo claimed Abitex had failed to give them their share.
Nobat revealed that Abitex and his group pocketed the money from the account and failed to help out the promoters who were initially supposed to be helped. He accused him of hiring a group of people he fronted as promoters, who then made off with the rest of the money.

Abitex, however, denied the allegations, noting that Bajjo and his group were greedy. He revealed that the money was still in their Sacco account and would be fully utilized by its members through the proper channels.
“The allegations against me are not true. There was nothing more, and they are coming out to tarnish our names now that the money is out. We cannot give them this money because there is no way we will explain it to the members. There is a committee responsible for that; it is a process,” he said.
