MBALE CITY
An Halt African Ltd has partnered with Mbale City to add value to waste dumped at the Doho dumping site. The partnership aims to promote proper waste management and keep the city clean.
According to Grace Titebenkana, Production Manager at An Halt African Ltd while speaking to our reporter today Friday in an exclusive interview the company has installed a factory that manufactures organic manure and breeds larvae of black soldier flies using waste. These products are going to be sold at a premium price across the country.
Titebenkana revealed that the factory uses 10 tons of waste daily and plans to expand its operations, employing more people and consuming more waste.
Moses Mugonyi, Mbale City Health Officer, noted that the city generates 530 tons of waste daily, but only 190 tons are collected due to limited dumping sites and indiscriminate waste disposal.
Monica Wazemba, Mbale City Physical Planner, stated that the city plans to acquire land at Namabasa to establish an official dumping site, as the current Doho site is inadequate.
Khariate Kakayi, Mbale City Deputy Mayor, welcomed the partnership, saying it will help address the city’s waste management challenges, particularly in areas like Kumi Road Market and Bugwere Road Market.
