Veteran comedian Amooti Omubalanguzi has turned down the request to engage in a comedy battle, citing that he is the father of all comedians in the local industry.
During the Comedy Festival 2026 press conference, Amooti was challenged to choose one comedian to go head-to-head with, but he gracefully turned it down.
The celebrated comedian revealed that for a long time, he had thought about challenging fellow comedians, but because of his expertise in the game, he didn’t see anyone fit to go against him.
He branded himself the godfather of comedy, and the best he could do was to work alongside fellow comedians, but not in a competitive way.
“I realized I’m my only competition. And I cannot battle against myself. Every commedia here should know that I’m their father. I cannot do it. Maybe if I just do it alongside you, but not competitively. It will be embarrassing for me to compete against myself,” he said.

Battles are slowly regaining momentum and have crossed beyond the music industry to comedy and boxing recently. Amooti revealed that they were a good idea as they help improve one’s performance skills through preparation.
“Battles are good, and they even happen amongst artists. They are not violent but healthy competition. They help prepare you to deliver an amazing show,” he said.
