RUKUNGIRI-With just one day left to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries, aspiring Member of Parliament for Rukungiri Municipality, Nathan Kamugisha Akandwanaho, has gained significant momentum in his bid for the party flag.
Akandwanaho on Tuesday led a massive procession that began at Nyamayeje Trading Centre and snaked through various parts of Rukungiri Municipality, culminating at his home in Kifunjo Cell, Eastern Division.
Thousands of enthusiastic supporters turned up to show their solidarity, chanting slogans and pledging their support ahead of Thursday’s primaries.
Addressing the crowd, Akandwanaho urged residents to vote for capable and development-oriented leaders who are committed to transforming the area.
He emphasized the urgent need to improve public services in the municipality, including access to clean water, quality healthcare, and better road infrastructure.“Our people deserve leaders who are tested, trusted, and development-focused. We must elect leaders based on their track record and commitment to service,” he said.
He also called on residents to ensure a peaceful electoral process by cooperating with security personnel and remaining calm throughout the voting exercise.“The people of Rukungiri Municipality deserve effective representation. Let us all vote wisely and peacefully,” Akandwanaho added.
The NRM primaries are scheduled for Thursday, July 17, with voters across the municipality expected to cast their ballots to choose the party’s flag bearer for the 2026 general elections.
