Airtel Money and the Uganda Revenue Authority have partnered to allow Ugandans to pay taxes and fees directly from their mobile phones, eliminating queues and paperwork

KAMPALA, UGANDA – Airtel Money and the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) have announced a new partnership that will allow Ugandans to pay taxes and other fees directly from their mobile phones.

The collaboration aims to streamline civic and business obligations, allowing customers to pay taxes, renew passports and secure business licenses without going to a physical office.

“From this moment forward, paying your taxes… or settling any URA obligation is as simple as reaching for your phone,” said Japhet Aritho, managing director for Airtel Money, at the launch event. “No queues. No paperwork. No wasted leave days.”

Airtel Money users can now complete a variety of transactions, including paying for PAYE, VAT, customs duties and passport renewals, by either using the MyAirtel App or dialing a specific code.

Aritho said the company has firsthand knowledge of the importance of taxes, noting that Airtel Money contributed 133.4 billion shillings in taxes in 2024.

James Odong, an assistant commissioner for the URA, said the partnership is a step toward greater financial inclusion and improved public service delivery.

“This partnership with Airtel further strengthens our capacity to provide convenient, accessible, and secure payment solutions for all taxpayers,” Odong said. “By leveraging Airtel’s wide network and innovative digital platforms, we are ensuring that more Ugandans can meet their tax obligations with ease.”

The partnership is part of Airtel Uganda’s continued investment in solutions that support the country’s economic growth and digital transformation agenda.
