AIGP Bamunoba Raises Alarm Over Rising Murder Cases in Kigezi, Cites Domestic Violence – Xclusive UG.

Date:

Kabale-The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Ubaldo Bamunoba has expressed concern over the growing number of murder cases in the Kigezi sub-region, attributing most of them to domestic violence.

Speaking to journalists at Kabale District Council Hall after a meeting with police commanders and Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officers from across the region, AIGP Bamunoba said domestic violence remains the leading cause of homicide in the area. The meeting was part of his ongoing electrification tour and routine assessment of police operations.“We must address the root causes of these crimes, and that begins in the home. Prevention through education and early intervention is key,” Bamunoba told journalists.

He tasked the Child and Family Protection Unit of the Uganda Police Force to intensify community sensitization campaigns to help families resolve disputes peacefully and reduce cases of violence escalating into homicide.

The AIGP also directed police officers to enhance their visibility through regular foot and motorized patrols, particularly in urban centers and crime hotspots, to deter criminal activity.

As Uganda heads into an election season, Bamunoba urged officers to remain vigilant, professional, and impartial in maintaining law and order.

He also appealed to politicians to adhere to electoral guidelines and work closely with security agencies to ensure a peaceful and transparent process.

Bamunoba further praised their efforts in maintaining peace during the recently concluded NRM party primaries, despite what he described as “minor challenges.” He assured the public that the police are fully prepared to secure the forthcoming general elections.“My assessment shows that the police in Kigezi have done a tremendous job in maintaining peace and order.

I encourage them to keep up the good work,” he said.
