Absa Bank Uganda names Catherine Kijjagulwe head of markets

Catherine Kijjagulwe has been named head of markets at Absa Bank Uganda. Learn more about her professional background in financial markets and her new leadership role at the bank.

KAMPALA, Uganda — Absa Bank Uganda has named Catherine Kijjagulwe as its new head of markets, the bank announced.

The appointment was effective Jan. 20.

Kijjagulwe has more than 20 years of experience in financial markets, including treasury management and market strategy. She most recently served as the bank’s head of trading. Before joining Absa, she was the head of treasury at the Commercial Bank of Africa, Uganda.

David Wandera, managing director of Absa Bank Uganda, said the appointment reflects the depth of leadership within the organization.

“She brings exceptional market expertise, strong strategic judgement, and a clear commitment to developing people and building sustainable capability,” Wandera said in a statement.

Kijjagulwe holds a Master of Business Administration from Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi, and a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Makerere University. She is also a member of the ACI Financial Markets Association of Uganda.

Outside of her professional role, Kijjagulwe serves as the president of the Rotary Club of Sunrise Kampala and is a member of the Absa Uganda Toastmasters Club.

Absa Bank Uganda is a subsidiary of Absa Group Limited, a financial services group listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. The bank operates 39 branches and more than 90 ATMs throughout the country and is regulated by the Bank of Uganda.
