Absa Bank Uganda appoints Catherine Kijjagulwe as Head of Markets – UG Standard

Absa Bank Uganda has appointed Catherine Kijjagulwe as head of Markets, effective 20 January 2026.

Catherine brings over two decades of deep expertise in financial markets, with a strong track record in treasury management, trading, and market strategy. She previously served as Head of Trading at Absa Bank Uganda, where she played a pivotal role in strengthening the bank’s markets capabilities and delivering consistent performance in a dynamic operating environment.

She has held several senior roles within Absa’s Financial Markets function, contributing to the growth and resilience of the business unit. Prior to joining Absa, Catherine was the Head of Treasury at the Commercial Bank of Africa, Uganda.

Kijjagulwe is a results-driven, visionary leader and is known for her strategic thinking, strong execution, and the ability to lead high-performing teams in dynamic market environments. She is passionate about the continued development of Uganda’s financial markets and advancing market sophistication in line with global best practice.

Commenting on the appointment, David Wandera, the Absa Bank Uganda Managing Director, said “Catherine’s appointment reflects the depth of leadership within Absa.

“She brings exceptional market expertise, strong strategic judgement, and a clear commitment to developing people and building sustainable capability. We are confident that she will play a critical role in strengthening our Markets business and supporting our broader growth ambitions.”

Beyond her executive role, Catherine is actively involved in leadership development and professional growth initiatives. She is a member of the Absa Uganda Toastmasters Club and a Rotarian, currently serving as President of the Rotary Club of Sunrise Kampala.

She holds a Master of Business Administration from Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Makerere University. She is ACI certified, holding an ACI Dealing and ACI Options certificate, and is a member of the ACI Financial Markets Association of Uganda.
