Renowned promoter Abitex has spoken out on President Museveni’s recent appointment to represent event promoters.
According to Abitex, he spoke with the Fountain of Honor and told him he wanted a high-ranking position in government. He reportedly agreed and was appointed Presidential Envoy for Events and Entertainment.
Abitex noted that even after his appointment, he had yet to receive a formal communication from the President. He, however, admitted he had not gone to school and revealed that he had advised against vetting his new position before parliament.
We agreed on a position there and then; I do not even remember the title, but I told him to give me that position, and he agreed. Have not confirmed yet, but I want him to write an official letter first. Made it known to him that I’m not educated. I told him I didn’t want a post with a lot of protocol, including being presented before parliament. I work for the president and not for any party. It is a personal relationship,” he said.
Among the privileges he sought for his new position, Abitex revealed that he wanted special treatment, including the right of way and a car that was not too luxurious but without a security detail. He noted that he preferred to be down-to-earth and wanted to spend all his time with his people.
He further revealed that he would use his position to address promoters’ problems, including recent concert halts and cancellations by police, and high URA revenues, among others, which he says he will resolve because he now has someone on speed dial he can easily talk to.

“I love my job so much, and because of my job, have been able to sit with very important people; those that I never thought I would get the chance to sit around. Love my job in event promotion because it has made me who I am. I told Mr. President that we needed money as promoters since he had already given artists,” he said.
