Five houses have been burnt to ashes in a suspected arson in Kiruli central village, Kiruli Sub County in Masindi district.
The fire caught the grass-thatched houses over the weekend when their occupants were sleeping. The burnt houses belonged to three people.
Sabastian Aguda, the area LC1 chairperson told this publication that fire was set on one of the houses by a yet-to-be-identified person driven by a grudge against its owner over a money deal.
Aguda added that the fire later spread to the nearby houses but all their occupants escaped unhurt although part of their property was burnt by the fire.
He added that the area residents had donated relief items to the fire victims as the investigations for those behind the act go on.
Aguda further added that he had informed the sub-county chairperson about the matter for onward submission to the higher government offices.
The chairperson condemned the act and advised the residents to always seek the intervention of the local leadership in case of any disagreements so they can be peacefully resolved instead of resorting to violence.
