12 Arrested As Police Rescue Seven Year Old From Kidnappers In Masaka

Twelve suspects have been arrested in connection with the abduction of a seven-year-old boy from Dimo Landing Site in Masaka District.

The Greater Masaka Police reported that the kidnapping occurred on March 21, 2025, at around 7:00 am. The victim was allegedly abducted by two men riding a red Bajaja Boxer motorcycle while on his way to school.

“The kidnappers later contacted the victim’s family, demanding a ransom of shs200,000, which was promptly paid. However, there was no further communication from the kidnappers,” the police explained.

Twaha Kasirye, the Regional Spokesperson for Greater Masaka, stated that a rescue operation was launched by the police at 5:00 pm, resulting in the safe recovery of the child.

Kasirye further explained that the kidnappers, who were tricked into releasing the child in exchange for a ransom of shs5 million, dropped the victim off at the GAZ Petrol Station in Kalisizo District.

“The kidnappers had arranged for the child to be taken to the mother in a taxi; however, police managed to apprehend the suspects during the process,” police said.

The 12  arrested suspects include Lutaya Nelson, a motorcycle rider; Maria Gorrete Nambajjo, an accomplice; Namugamba Prossy, the sister of the prime suspect; Namukwaya Rosemary, the mother of the prime suspect; Serugo Matia, the brother of the prime suspect; Kasumba Yuda, the father of the prime suspect; Sikyomu Tonny, a friend of the prime suspect; Yawe Robert, another friend of the prime suspect; Kiwendo Paul, an accomplice; Hussein Muhammad, an accomplice; Masereka Dennis, a taxi driver; and Wamala Emma, a taxi conductor.

However, police have reported that the prime suspect, identified as Pius Tusibira, is still on the run.

“The prime suspect, Tusibira Pius, remains at large, and we call upon anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to share it with police in confidence,” the police said.
